National Energy Issues
The Fayetteville Shale has proven to be an abundant supplier of natural gas, jobs and revenue for the State of Arkansas. However, Increasing access to additional domestic sources of oil and natural gas is also critical to putting our nation on the road to economic recovery and to meeting the energy needs of American consumers..
Results from a Wood Mackenzie study conclude the oil and natural gas industry could create 1 million new jobs within the next seven years through responsible development of America’s oil and natural gas resources. And by 2030, over 1.4 million jobs and $800 billion in revenue can be generated if pro-production policies are implemented. Source: Wood Mackenzie).
Following are examples pro-production policies that could incase access to domestic oil and natural gas resources and leader to greater American energy security:
- Allow regulation of shale resources to remain predominately at the State level, such as environmental regulations and permitting.
- Open Federal areas that are currently “off limits”to exploration and development, including Atlantic and Pacific offshore development, and areas in the Rocky Mountains, Alaska and Eastern Gulf of Mexico.
- Allow natural gas development using hydraulic fracturing in New York State
Americans need policies that will allow domestic companies to develop oil and natural gas resources here in the United States. With advances in technology and stringent standards and procedures based on decades of experience, the industry can safely and efficiently develop our domestic resources and create jobs, revenue and energy security for our nation.
The Administration and Congress should listen to the American people, and create the energy policies our nation needs.
