Hydraulic fracturing is a means of extracting natural gas from shale formations such as the Fayetteville Shale. It is a proven technology and has been used since the 1940s in more than one million wells in the United States to help produce oil and natural gas.

The Fayetteville Shale has proven to be an abundant supplier of natural gas, jobs and revenue for the State of Arkansas. However, Increasing access to additional domestic sources of oil and natural gas is also critical to putting our nation on the road to economic recovery and to meeting the energy needs of American consumers.
